Johnny Cecotto was talented on two and four wheels, originally getting his knee-down against the likes of Barry Sheene and Kenny Roberts and eventually becoming the 350cc World Motorcycle Champion, he switched to four wheels in 1980. A few years in F2 and narrowly missing out on the championship in 1982 led him to a Formula One career that was left wanting. 1984 saw Johnny team up with none other than Ayrton Senna in the Toleman, however, his season and open-wheel career was cut short in a terrible accident whilst qualifying for the British Grand Prix in which Johnny suffered severe injuries to both of his leg.
Nonetheless, the desire to race burnt brightly in Johnny and a few years later, he was a factory BMW touring car driver – and a damn good one too! Over a decade with BMW saw him achieve great success in the DTM and the German Supertouring Championship (STW). johnny
