It all started when…
I was THAT kid at school who spent more time watching motorsport and playing Grand Prix 2 and Colin McRae Rally than doing his homework. The childhood dream of racing karts never eventuated, yet my fascination with all things motorsport continued to burn brightly. Writing my own “fantasy race reports” for my English-teaching mother, was only one of the multiple young motorsport tragic activities I partook in.
The next Ayrton Senna/Peter Brock never came to fruition and I found myself stuck on the sidelines in a job that paid the bills – just enough for me to build my own car and go racing on the odd occasion. Sport Compact drag racing and local circuit racing championships were just out of my reach, however my real and much more realistic ambition to write about the sport I loved caught a break when I was employed with Express Media Group, Bauer Media and Gilbert Magazine Group. Through these three companies, I learnt to fine tune my writing, editorial, design and production skills with some of the top magazines in Australia. I still race and currently embarking on a campaign for the APRA Championship with the end-goal to be on the grid for a VLN race at the Nurburgring!
FYRC has been created because we want to make a difference. There is no doubt that our beloved sport is in trouble and we don’t want our grandchildren not knowing about wheel-to-wheel combat and champagne wastage. We want to give like-minded motorsport enthusiasts and fans the opportunity to engage in a great community and share in our motto – “Let’s Make Motorsport Great Again“.
